Head of the Department's Message
It is my great pleasure to be a part of S.P.B Patel Engineering College, a place where every student, faculty and staff members matters and each one has an important role to play for the development of the Institute.
Civil engineering is about community service, development, and improvement - the planning, design, construction, and operation of facilities essential to modern life, ranging from transit systems to offshore structures to space satellites. Civil engineers are problem solvers, meeting the challenges of pollution, traffic congestion, water management, community planning, urban redevelopment including works such as bridges, roads, canals, dams and buildings.
With the vision that every student will be a future efficient engineer, the Institute arranges a variety of activities and programmes like expert lectures, Industrial visits, involvements in Industrial fares, cultural and sports programme etc. to sharpen the skills and to develop abilities while stretching the student's potential to excel.
We very much focus on total personality development of the students by imparting technical competence, analytical ability, presentation/communication skill, planning & time management, team work, managerial & leadership qualities to make them employable and confident engineer.

Why should one pursue Civil Engineering?
It is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads, bridges, canals, dams and buildings.
Civil engineering is centre to improve the lives of people. By continuously developing and upgrading the services and facilities of the public, it not only gives the Engineer a sense of responsibility towards humanity but brings forth a sense of satisfaction that the work carried out by the Civil Engineer contributes significantly to the wellbeing of the society. Civil Engineers are an integral part of society, without them, we would have no roads, airports, buildings, dams, harbours etc.
One of the things that made it easier for anybody to choose Civil Engineering as a profession is the fact that it is a very diverse profession and offers a wide range of activities across a variety of disciplines like Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transport Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering etc.
Ultimately Civil engineers can work in a versatile range of positions and projects Therefore, you should choose Civil Engineering without any apprehension of poor job opportunity, particularly when you are looking for a jobs in Central Govt. like Railways, CPWD, Military Engineering, ONGC, National Airport Authority, etc. In Gujarat state government department like GIDC, GWSSB, Irrigation Department, Road & Building Department, Town Planning Department, GHB, GEB etc. In NGO, Multinational companies, small and giant local companies are also ready to give opportunities.
